Lab Assignment 1/25/11

The research center I found is the Orca Research Trust located in New Zealand. The center however, does not just conduct research in New Zealand but also in Argentina, Antarctica, Papua New Guinea. Also with conducting scientific research, the center also works towards habitat conservation and protection of the species as a non-profit organization.

The park that I chose is Olympic National Park. I have always wanted to go to the Northwest, and I think Washington is gorgeous.

My geologic feature is Lake Bled in Slovenia. I don't remember when I first saw a picture of the lake, but I loved it. It surrounds Bled Island, the only natural island in Slovenia and is situated in the middle of forest and mountains.
Red Panda's are probably the cutest animal I have ever seen, and I am interested to learn more about them. I actually saw one at the Atlanta Zoo last semester.

Maps and Mapping

The map below is an isarithmic map of the Ichauway plantation off of the Flint River and the different types of surrounding land. I chose this map because my brother works at Ichauway as a database analyst at the Jones Ecological Center in Newton, GA.

The next map is a dot density map of Alabama's population. I chose this map because I'm from a really small town near Auburn, Alabama.

The last map is of my grandparents' old house. The polygon is of the old barn that was on their property and the creek in the woods behind it. The short path is the trail that my Paw-Paw carved out for us to have somewhere to go when we were there. The other, longer path is the way I would go back to my house.
